2006

In the spring of 2006 a swimming pool specialist was commissioned to carryout repairs to the tiling above the water-line. The last time this was done was in 1990 and the time before that was in 1979 when the pool was built.

It was anticipated that the repair would would be substantial and be similarly durable. However this was not to be!

The first 6 pictures record the 2006 refurbishment.

The winter of 2009/10 was very severe and once again the pool tiling above the water-line suffered and drastic action was required to rectify the damage.

2009 / 2010

Some of the damaged tiling

Work commences by draining the pool using a submersible pump

A long way to the largest drain

The Tom Finney splash

The French Cumnock Connection splash

The source of the problem was established and the shoddy workmanship of the swimming pool specialists was revealed. The coping stones that seal the surrounding area from the tiled area of the pool must be securely fixed with a waterproof and frost resistant cement. All the coping stones were loose and unsealed.

Finished ......

All that is required now is to fill the pool with water! Will it rain heavily in the next day or two or will I have to use my tap water, which is metered, and costly!

Water requirements to fill the pool

31 cubic meters.
approximately £3.00 per cubic meter = £93.00p.
220 gallons = 1 cubic meter.
6,820 gallons.
Time to fill using a domestic hose pipe = 35 hours.
194 gallons per hour.

Time will tell if the repair has been a success!

It looks well at the moment, but should it fail it will most certainly be filled in and grassed over!
